PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (WPEC) — A Florida Highway Patrol arrest report reveals more details on the crash that killed both Trooper Zachary Fink and a truck driver last Friday.
The report states there was no evidence that either Fink or the semi-truck driver made any attempt to break before the deadly collision.
Investigators concluded this after finding no tire marks to indicate any evasive action taken by either vehicle. Based on the damage to the left side of Fink's patrol car, investigators deduced the tractor trailer had struck him with the front of the truck.
"It was evident that Trooper Fink's vehicle was perpendicular to the semi-truck at the time of the collision," the report stated. Fink had done a U-turn during a high-speed chase with another car when he barreled into the path of the semi, police said Friday.
This comes after St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office released their arrest report narrating the initial traffic stop before Fink joined the chase.
The FHP report concludes the second half of the pursuit and arrest of Michael Addison, 30, who originally fled a SLCSO deputy because he was afraid he was being pulled over for a crime he's connected with in Broward County.
Addison fled the deputies and FHP trooper on Interstate 95, going nearly 140 mph, before taking an off-ramp on Commerce Central Drive where he then crashed his Kia into a tree and left the scene on foot.
About 1,000 feet from his totaled car, Addison asked a nearby resident to use their cell phone. The man overheard him speaking with a "female friend," saying that he'd been in a serious crash and was running from the police. Hearing this, the man dialed 911.
Addison was caught and is facing various charges, including vehicular and felony homicide, driving without a license causing death, and aggravated fleeing and eluding with death.
